Marketing Resources
The retreading industry has,
historically, not been very good at promoting itself. There
are plenty of valid reaons for this, not least the fact
that because retreaders are mostly small and medium sized
enterprises, they often don't have the resources to develop
sophisticated marketing and promotional materials.
The aim of this section is
to provide easy access to resources where retreaders can
easily access material which can be easily used to promote
retreads as a whole.

WRAP Retread Campaign
Promotional Material
During 2008 the Waste and Resources
Action Programme in the UKcarried out a campaign to promote
the use of retreads on light commercial vehicle fleets.
As part of that campaign WRAP produced a high quality generic
promotional brochure describing the benefits of retreads
as well as case study leaflets showing how retreads had
been successfully used on existing fleets in the UK.
The promotional brochure can
be downloaded as pdf files for printing by retreaders please

Tire Retread Information
Bureau (TRIB)

TRIB is a fantastic organisation dedicated
to providing the motoring public (both in the private and
public sectors) with the most up-to-date information about
the economic and environmental benefits of tyre retreading
and repairing. The organisation is based in the USA but
it is worthwhile considering joining TRIB regardless of
where in the world you are based.
The TRIB website provides information and
inks to a wide range of promotional literature and reports
that can be used by retreaders to promote their businesses
including government retread studies from the US, the TIA's
brochure "Understanding Retreading" and articles
on other topics such as the importance of correct tyre maintenance
etc. The website also details TRIB's range of technical
DVDs that can be used as valuable marketing tools.

The Centre for Remanufacturing
and Reuse Carbon Footprint Report

The Centre for Remanufacturing and Reuse in
the UK recently published a report on the carbon footprint
of retreaded tyres compared with that of new tyre. The result
was a fantastic PR case for the green credentials of retreaded
tyres and an excellent tool for retreaders wanting to demonstrate
the environmental benefits of retreading.
The report showed that the manufacture of
a 17.5” new tyre produces 86.9 kg CO2 emissions compared
to 60.5 kg CO2 for an equivalent retread tyre, a saving
of 26.4 kg and a reduction of emissions by 30%.
A
summary of the study can be downloaded here or by clicking
on the CRR logo above.
AEAT Report
A few years ago the UK based consultancy company
produced an independent report in conjunction with the DTI
and the RMA with a view to addressing some of the barriers
to increasing the market for retreaded tyres. The Report
"Overcoming
Market Barriers for Key Stakeholders in Retread Tyre Markets"
can be accessed by clicking on the link.
