Despite the European Parliament’s official confirmation of a one-year postponement for the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), the industry continues to face significant regulatory challenges. Following the vote, the amended regulation will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union and will enter into force three days thereafter.
Key Retreading Concern Remails
However, a critical issue for the retreading sector remains unresolved. Despite extensive industry representations, tyre casings and carcasses remain within the scope of Annex I of the EUDR. The proposed delegated act from earlier this year, which was intended to address this classification, was not adopted.
BIPAVER is therefore urging all members and stakeholders to maintain pressure on political contacts to ensure that the forthcoming review of the EUDR integrates the necessary modifications regarding casings. This remains a priority to ensure that the retreading industry’s circular economy model is not unfairly penalised.
While the postponement provides temporary relief, it is clear that 2026 will be a year of continued advocacy and challenge.
