AZuR wins the German Award for Sustainability Projects 2025

On September 11, 2025, AZuR was honoured in Berlin with the prestigious German Award for Sustainability Projects 2025. In the category “Overall Concept, NPO,” the jury recognised the Europe-wide unique network of the tyre and recycling industry for its comprehensive and practical solution to implementing a climate-friendly tyre circular economy.

For Christina Guth, AZuR Network Coordinator, this award is “a strong signal of the innovative power of the tyre circular economy. The potential to systematically extend tyre use is enormous, both ecologically and economically. We are delighted with this recognition, and even more so that the issue of circular economy for mobility is finally receiving the attention it deserves.”

The sustainability seal, presented by ntv, DUP Entrepreneur Magazine, and the German Institute for Service Quality (DISQ), honours projects that contribute to sustainable development with high impact, innovation, and industry relevance. The jury praised AZuR as a “highly relevant, concrete, and practice-oriented project” with special resonance in the mobility sector.

Close dialogue with policymakers, the development of scientifically sound solutions, and the creation of practical standards all help to make the system viable on a broad scale. AZuR is now seen not only as a technical flagship project but also as a lever for societal change. The competition jury emphasised: “The cross-sector collaboration between industry, science, and politics is regarded as a powerful lever for system transformation.”

For Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, the circular economy is also “the key to Europe’s competitiveness and resilience. It reduces our dependency on raw materials, protects the climate, and creates future-proof jobs.”

Receiving the German Award for Sustainability Projects makes AZuR’s commitment even more visible on the international stage. In the coming years, AZuR plans to expand its network further, strengthen cooperation with municipalities and logistics providers, and develop digital systems for traceability and sorting.
