The Tire Cologne 2020 Launches at Motorworld

Tire Cologne Motorworld

Koelnmesse, the organisers of The Tire Cologne, officially launched the second edition of their show to the tyre press on 10 October 2019 at Motorworld, Cologne, a motor museum located at the old Cologne airfield, which houses the Michael Schumacher collection, a unique display of the cars the Formula One Ace drove throughout his career.

Global Retreading Conference Set for Hall 9

The show, which takes place from 9-12 June 2020, has quickly established itself as a key global event for the retreading industry, replacing the Essen-based Reifen show in a two-year cycle, alternating with Autopromotec as the primary Europe-based exhibition for the sector.

During the launch, the degree to which the organisers are making the effort to portray The Tire Cologne as a thoroughly modern event experience became patently clear with a number of new innovations being announced including the introduction of digital signage boards within the event (100 people are working on the show’s digital transformation) and the introduction of a new “Future Mobility” Special Area in Hall 9.

Indeed, in the question and answer session of the introductory press conference, Gerald Böse, President and CEO, dealt in detail with the question of whether old concepts for trade fairs are out of date and whether the traditional conservative trade fair concept was enough in the modern world.

“It is necessary to look at trade shows individually,” he said. “There is a need for a mix of business and emotional events including a comprehensive fringe programme. Above all, there is a need to involve the visitor directly.”

During the 2018 event some considerable effort and investment was made by the organisers in trying to make The Tire Cologne more attractive for exhibitors and visitors from the tyre retreading and recycling sectors. Central to this were the Global Retreading Conference, organised by The BRV and BIPAVER, and the Tyre Recycling Forum, planned and organised by our sister magazine, Tyre and Rubber Recycling.

For 2020, both events will take place on the Recycling Forum space in Hall 9, which will also house Retreading Business’s stand. The Global Retreading Conference will take place on the first day of the show (June 9) and is a one-time opportunity to take a global look at the decisive trends and developments of the retreading industry. The focus for the 2020 show will be on “Retreading as Best Practice for the Circular Economy”.

The two-day Tyre Recycling Forum will take place on the 10th and 11th of June 2020, on a stand dedicated to the tyre recycling sector. This will be followed on 12th June, with a series of Product Review sessions for the retreading sector, all of which will be available for download via the Retreading Business website after the event.

For 2020, the seating area for The Tyre Recycling Forum has been increased to accommodate more delegates, and the tyre life cycle display is planned to show real end uses for recycled materials. Proposals at this stage revolve around the possibility of a mini indoor arena with a running track and an artificial turf infield. This display will be surrounded by examples of end products using recycled rubber.

The free-to-access Tyre Recycling Forum has already received confirmations from several speakers from Europe, India, Russia, the USA, Canada, and we hope to have representation from South America and Australia. Subjects covered will be the state of international markets, rubberised asphalt, micronisation, pyrolysis, devulcanisation and sustainability.

Of course, there will be space in and around the Recycling Forum for visitors from the recycling and retreading sectors to network, to meet with speakers, and question details raised in the presentations.

Readers interested in attending the Tyre Recycling Forum can register their interest via the Eventbright booking facility here.
