Vipal Launches RFID Tyre
Pressure Monitoring at
Fenatran 2011
Technology ensures higher accuracy and the reliability of results, improving safety and creating cost savings for fleet owners.
All fleet owners know how important tyre pressure is and how critical it is to increase safety and minimize the exposure of their trucks to hazardous conditions on the road, and generate cost savings in maintenance and fuel.
Vipal is always looking to offer new solutions for the fleet operators to get maximum performance from their tyres and is innovating once again.
At Fenatran 2011 Vipal launched a modern system based on sending information by radio that records and monitors the tyre pressure, as well as mileage and fuel consumption.
This novel system is unique to Vipal and offers a rapid notification of tyre issues. It offers a visual alert system, high precision measurement and real-time monitoring of tyre pressure and the easiest of calibration. Beyond the simplicity of installation the management of information collected can be completed through a system available on the Internet.
The BAT / RF works electronically by sensors called AIRBAT installed in the hub, which sends tyre pressure information every two seconds to the management system. A reader attached to the cab of the truck receives this information via radio frequency and emits an audible signal and sets off a light when it detects low tyre pressure, alerting the driver at the exact moment when the problem occurs.
Another sensor, for mileage, called TRACBAT, is a digital hub speedometer that sits on one axle and registers the vehicle and speeds for the trip for the trip, as well as maintaining an historical
record of mileage and the total miles accumulated. This tool allows operators to plan
maintenance per mile for each vehicle in the truck fleet. Reading of data is also made easier, and can be done in two ways. Firstly, with a portable reader, called HANDBAT, collection is quick and is a simple way of recording the information stored in pressure sensors and mileage, also recording the data on fuel consumption.
Fleet owners can also opt for a fixed reader system, the GATE READER, installed at checkpoints set to automatic and the simultaneous reading of all sensors as the trucks pass over the readers. Both readers send the information to a management package that is available on the Internet, called WEBBAT. With this data, fleet managers can produce reports to manage vehicles according to mileage, tyre pressure, fuel consumption, amongst other data fields.
With all this, the BAT / RF has a number of benefits for fleet owners and the driver, such as increased tyre life, since tyre pressure 20 per cent below the optimum can reduce tyre life by as much as 20 per cent. Another obvious gain is the reduction of fuel consumption. Similarly, tyre pressure running 20 per cent below specification can increase fuel consumption by up to 3.7 per cent.
Brazil a Growing Retreading Market
The tyre retreading market has an important role in the Brazilian economy. In 2010, according to the last update of data from the ABR (Brazilian Association of Tyre Retreading) - more than 8.2 million truck tyres (truck and bus) were retreaded, saving $7 billion for the transport market. Currently, the sector employs 205,000 people
and turns over about $4 billion each year. In recent years, the number of truck tyres being retreaded has exceeded the sales of new tyres and it is estimated that the market for retreaded tyres grew 4.5 per cent in 2011, beating forecasts of GDP growth in the period.
Formula Truck Announces 2012 Schedule
Formula Truck has officially released its schedule for the 2012 Season. Just like last year, the category will have two Championships, the Brazilian and South American. However, the biggest change is that all 10 tests are valid for the Brazilian, and four will also count for the South American Championship. The championship opens in early March at the Velopark in Rio Grande do Sul state, which again receives the most popular category in the country. It closes
again in Brasilia in December, as happened last year.

Tipler and Senai Start First Retreading Course in Brazil
A Tipler initiative will benefit young people from Rio Grande do Sul State (South of Brazil) and the rubber industry sector. A tyre retreading course, new to Brazil, will start in April. Tipler, a company with more than 30 years experience in the retreading market with headquarters in São Leopoldo (Rio Grande do Sul state), and SENAI - CETEPO (Polymer Technology Center) have created the course - "Operator Processes in Tyre Retreading". The course, of six months duration, will empower young people, train skilled manpower and generate employment and income in the region.
The goal is to train professionals with solid knowledge to work in the retreading sector with respect of procedures and technical standards, quality, health and safety and the environment. The course will be conducted by SENAI - CETEP and
practical classes take place at the Tipler Training Centre. This will include approximately 400 hours of instruction, starting in April and will continue until November 2012, with classes in the morning and includes the offer of scholarships for students.
"We want to provide an alternative to community development," says Tipler's chief executive, Sergio Bica Jr. "With this innovation, we will also create a new possibility of generating income and employment and integration into the labour market."
With training, young people may also move into other rubber industries, in our region, which rely on skilled labour and industrial experience to fill positions within the sector.
