TVS Tread Continues Growth in Domestic Market
CITEXPO Claimed as a Success
TVS Tread is continuing to grow despite subdued market conditions in India last year. The tread maker hopes to gain in the future also due to its recently announced tie-up with Michelin. “Last year the market was not so
with the Recamic process and the rest by the TVS Tread process at its various plants. “Michelin has opened a new retreading plant in Pune recently, and has also certified several of our retreading facilities,” Yuganandan stated.
Organised by Reliable International Exhibition Services Co., Ltd., the eleventh edition of China International Tire Expo (CITEXPO) was completed successfully on September 6, 2013 at Shanghai Everbright Convention and Exhibition Centre. In the three day event, 335 exhibitors occupying 24,000 square meters of exhibition area showcased their latest products, services and technologies. Three full exhibition halls were taken up this year in order to accommodate the increased number of exhibitors.
Being one of the world's most influential and the largest tyre related trade shows in the Asian region, CITEXPO has pulled together the tremendous buying power of the worldwide tyre industry in the three day event. And the result has exceeded almost all of the exhibitors' expectations. The organiser claimed that there were 3040
international and 4263 domestic visitors from 101 countries and 32 Chinese provinces and regions attending this year's show.
According to the organiser, Reliable International Exhibition Services Company Limited, 80 per cent of the exhibition space has been rebooked by 190 exhibitors before and during the show for CITEXPO 2014. Most of the exhibitors have increased their exhibiting space aggressively to accommodate more high-valued professional buyers, enhance their company image and maximise the opportunity to accomplish more trade orders.
Being the largest tyre show in the region, CITEXPO has developed successfully into a routine event for the worldwide tyre industry in the past nine years.
The twelfth edition of CITEXPO will be held in the same venue in September 10 - 12 in 2014.
good but we managed production growth of almost 12 per cent,” said K Yuganandan, Vice President, Retreading Operations, TVS Tread, speaking at Tyrexpo India in Chennai. “We are hoping for double – digit growth in 2013 also,” he added. TVS Tread manufactures around 250 tonnes of tread rubber per month to supply its 21 retreading units, which manufacture a total of 30,000 truck, light trucks and OTR retreads per month. The majority of the plants are located in Southern India.
“We have a wide portfolio, retreading bias as well as radial tyres by both the conventional and precure process besides doing tyre repair,” Yuganandan informed. The company had previously operated a franchisee network but has now withdrawn from this market due to the inherent limitations of a dedicated franchisee system in a market flooded with all kinds of brands.
TVS also retreads OTR tyres at its plants in Nagpur, Jamshedpur, Vijaywada and Chennai. “We retread OTR tyres in these four plants in addition to truck tyres,” Yuganandan said. TVS retreads around 1,000 OTR tyres in a month.
Interestingly, under the Michelin – TVS tie-up, Michelin will retread Michelin branded tyres
Michelin has certified TVS retreading plants at Coimbatore, Hyderabad, and Salem. Plants at Chennai, Poddukotai, Cochin, Bangalore and Madurai are the next five plants to be certified in the next quarter.
Michelin is expected to source 500 tonnes of tread rubber from TVS in the next five years. “Currently, we are producing around 250 tonnes of tread rubber per month. Our plant capacity is 500 tonnes per month, therefore, we could scale up the production at short notice to meet the Michelin demand at any time,” Yuganandan explained. TVS is also an authorised trainer for Michelin tyre repair.
TVS Tread export a limited portion of its production to various markets abroad. “We export 50-100 tonnes of tread rubber in one quarter depending upon orders,” Yuganandan said. However, the company’s focus remains on the Indian market. “We are focussing on the home market as it is growing and there is lot of scope to grow even further,” he reiterated.
Jianxin Rubber Aim to be New Star in Retreading World
Chinese tread rubber manufacturer Jianxin Rubber exhibited at the 11th China International Citexpo in Shanghai between September 4- 6 and is reporting
huge success at the
show.
Jianxin was the only manufacturer of
