North American Tire & Retread Expo in New Orleans,” said Cai. Jianxin has expanded rapidly as a tread rubber supplier. However, retreading materials are not the company’s only product. Last year Jianxin started to produce new truck tyres (currently 1,000 pieces per day) selling to a number of Asian countries including South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Philippines and Japan. The
company, at the moment, is concentrating on its existing retread material customers to market the new tyres.
Says Cai; “Some Chinese new tyres have a poor casing quality. However, we have assured that our casing quality is good, allowing the tyres to be retreaded twice. Now we are able to offer our customers a strong range of both new tyres and retreading materials.”

Maxrubber Demonstrates New Tread Liner Ranges
Fast growing retreading equipment manufacturer Shanghai Sooner is already exporting to 50 countries around the world, despite have only been exporting for 5 years. The company was exhibiting at Tyrexpo Asia with a view to expanding its customer base in the key South-East Asian markets of Indonesia, Philippines and Malaysia as well as increasing its general profile in the retreading market..
According to Managing Director Winson Cai, South East Asia is a key market for Shanghai Sooner, but so are the Middle East, Africa and South America. The company has also sold machinery in Russia, although Cai says he wants to find new ways of marketing in this region, for example through internet marketing. Currently Shanghai Sooner only has a few customers in the US and Europe
but this is also growing. As things stand Cai admits that the company’s product range still exists primarily of lower level machinery, much of which is targeted at developing markets. “We will perhaps target the European market with sophisticated top level machinery at sometime in the future,” he says, “but we need more time and experience first, as well as needing to develop a stronger position in the developing markets closest to us.”
Shanghai Sooner provides a wide range of retreading equipment including buffers, builders, autoclaves, spreaders, monorail systems, inflation testing equipment and various tools. The company also works closely with Jianxin Rubber to provide accessories and raw materials.
Klang, Malaysia based tread rubber manufacturer Maxrubber Industries Sdn Bhd is another rubber producer which has been in the market a long time, and which is only now beginning to look actively outside its own borders to expand its business. The company announced its debut on the international market with a stand at the recent Tyrexpo Asia exhibition in Singapore.
Maxrubber was originally established in 1989 by Lee Chee Keong. The company was Initially a trading enterprise but eventually moved into manufacturing with a focus on rubber moulded products for automotive and industrial uses. In
1993 an upgraded compounding system was installed in order to enhance the manufacturing process as well as increase production capacity. Equipped with this new production line, Maxrubber then expanded its business to the manufacture of tyre retreading materials. In its continuous efforts to strive for improvement, the company obtained ISO 9001: 2000 certification in 2005, and expanded into a new 2.2 acres factory in Klang in 2009.
Maxrubber has clearly had a long history in the industry even if the company has not had a high profile internationally. Now the company is
looking to expand following its presence at Tyrexpo Asia. “The first intention is to find export customers. The second point is to increase the company’s profile,” said Deputy Managing Director John Lee Chen Lim. “We will also be emphasising the company’s strong history,” he added.
Maxrubber were showing three new developments during Tyrexpo Asia. Firstly, the company has recently
expanded into the manufacture of OTR tread liners. “We are trying to push our OTR patterns to retreaders,” said Lee. “Most OTR retreaders are hot cure so we think we can sell the concept.”
Maxrubber was also demonstrating a new contoured tread liner as well as a recently developed range of non- marking pre-cured treads for use on tyres for warehouses, hospitals and other similar applications.
