          CIMA Breaking The Mould
Another development from CIMA was a new one piece mould making process. Tyre moulds are still offered in segments, it is the only way they can be made to function, but the mould sections themselves used to be manufactured from a series of smaller segments – a costly and time consuming process. However, by
application of the latest technology, the new moulds from CIMA are made from single dies, thus reducing imperfections and cutting down in flashing on the finished tyre. The moulds are slightly more expensive but the end quality is much superior, offsetting the increase in costs.
The Italian retread machinery manufacturer reported that it had seen some change in the market over recent months and, whereas they had been focusing on the OTR sector for some time, that market had perhaps now slowed a little. The truck market was, as reported by almost everyone, to be sluggish, but the Italian car retread sector had seen a resurgence in interest, and supplying equipment to the car tyre retreaders had seen a boost to business. Overall performance had been good though.
Alessandro Vignolini explained that one of the reasons for this refocus of the retread sector in Italy on car
tyres was the introduction of mandatory winter tyre use. This had created a demand, and this newly revitalised market needed to be able to produce high quality winter tyre retreads at competitive prices.
One way of helping develop this market was in supplying fully automated orbitread car tyre builders, and that was just what CIMA had done, they were presenting their latest car tyre builder at the show.
The resurgence of interest in car tyre retreading is not just from Italy, according to Vignolini, but from Eastern Europe where the market is growing steadily.
Italian rubber specialist ITG will regularly be found at Essen and Autopromotec. Director Fabio Cortese believes that it is important to be there to show the brand and to meet long standing clients and introduce the brand to potential new customers. However, ITG, he explains, is today focusing increasingly on technical rubbers for industry,
In fact the big news was that ITG was in the process of launching a new technical rubber plant in
Mexico shortly after the exhibition in Bologna.
Tread production at ITG accounted for about 10 per cent of the company’s business and that had remained stable for some time, Cortese could see no real change in the volume of tread production in the near future, partly because of the focus on technical products and partly because of the market conditions, which were, as all had reported, been less than exhilarating for longer than anyone had hoped.

Vipal Develops Relationships in European Market
Of all the retread materials suppliers at Autopromotec, one in particular stood out from the crowd. A simple
stand in the corporate branding and plenty of staff to engage with clients, and moreover, plenty of clients to
         DRIVE IT. AGAIN.
