Retreading business is down by almost 25 per cent in the rainy season.
Besides his flourishing new tyre business, Narmada has three retreading plants in Gujarat.
The company’s oldest retreading plant in Kim in the Surat district of Gujarat, retreads 100 tyres every month. “We started the Kim plant in 1992, which retreads tractor and truck tyres in equal number,” said Harshad Bhai.
The second plant, opened in 1999 in the industrial city of Ankeleshwar, retreads 300 tyres each month, and the third unit became functional in Bharauch in 2004, retreading 200 tyres
per month. “We are also in the reclaim rubber business and our manufacturing plant is in the city of Rajkot,” he informed.
On questioning the prospects for new retreading plants, he said, “We could open but there is a shortage of trained man power in the retreading industry.”
The company retreads tyres with array of tread brands but the majority is from nearby United Rubber, from whom the company sources around 4 tonnes of tread rubber every month.
Recently the retreader sourced three electric chambers from Coimbatore based Glisten for all

the three units. “We have replaced the old steam chambers with new electric ones at all our three plants,” he said. All three are six-tyre autoclaves.
Due to slow market conditions, retreading is passing through tough times in the region. Retreaders are having to cope both with competitive pricing and long credit practices, which cuts down margins badly. “Ankeleshwar had eight tyre retreading plants but now only four are functional,” said Harshad Bhai.
Narmada is one of the biggest dealers of Apollo Tyres in Gujarat. It also sells Ceat tyres as well as several Chinese tyre brands. “Our USP is a product for every type of customer in the tyre and retreading business,” said Bhai.

New Inner Envelope Millenium S from MAE
MAE Industria Gomma has added a new inner envelope to its product range. In designing the Millenium S range, MAE Engineers have modified the features of the inner envelope to improve the use.
Main features of the new product are that an easier vacuum is created when the tyre is in a vertical position and improved distribution of thickness so to be either flexible or resistant where required in the most stressed parts of the envelope
The envelopes are available for 19.5”, 20” and 22.5” tyre sizes.
