Malaysian Highway Clean Up Blames Retreads for Debris
PLUS Malaysia Bhd, the body responsible for keeping Malaysian highways clear will increase patrols with a view to clearing debris on the North-South Expressway in Perak after complaints from drivers suffering damage to their vehicles, according to the country’s The Star Online.
Concessionaire C1 section manager Asnor Ali said that four teams of officers would be joined by two more between Ipoh and Bidor.
“We have also deployed our contractors, the

Intervention
Team, to look for
and clear
obstructions in
the road,” he
said recently.
Asnor said more
than half the
objects picked
up on a daily
basis were the
remains of shredded retreaded tyres.
This will doubtless reinforce negative perceptions about retreads and make the role of selling quality retreads that much more difficult. Just quite how the debris was identified as being from retreads is unclear. However, if loading and maintenance practices are not to the highest standards, then there is every possibility that the debris is as likely to be from new tyres as it is retreads.
