RE-OPENING OF QUARRIES SET TO SPUR RETREAD VOLUMES AT SEASON TYRES
Midas retreader Season Tyres has acquired additional space for fur- ther expansion at its factory in Kalady, India in the expectation that the re-opening of quarries in the region will help spur retread sales.
“Currently, the market is slow due to the ban on quarrying in the Sta- te besides the ongoing rainy season. If the market conditions impro- ve, we can expand the plant anytime on a short notice,” said T V Vija- yan, Partner at Season Tyres, which has been a loyal Midas customer since it was established in 1994.
The majority of Season Tyre’s customers are engaged in the qua- rrying business in the state of Kerala, where the state government The ban on quarrying has greatly impacted retreading in the area as about 1,000 dumpers and tippers engaged in the three mining areas of Malayattoor, Chalakudy and Mannapuram provide business to the retreading factories in the region.
“We are expecting the government to take some decision on ope- ning the mines soon, said Vijayan.” The shortage of granite and red earth in the state may force the state government to open the mines again shortly with stricter monitoring and with less impact on the ecological balance.
