As previously reported in Retreading Business the Bandag brand is aiming to make a return to the spotlight in Europe, fact which has been confirmed by Bridgestone EMEA’s appointment of Christoph Frost as Director of the company’s EMEA Retread Business, placing him at the helm of Bandag’s European operations.
Accelerated Growth Targeted across Europe
Frost brings more than 25 years of experience in the European tyre industry, with a strong focus on commercial products and retreading. For the past eight years, he led Bridgestone’s Central Europe Region, covering Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Nordic countries. His deep industry expertise and long-standing involvement with Bandag position him to accelerate growth across the region.
“I am excited to take on the role of Director for the EMEA Retread Business,” he said. “Retreading plays a crucial role in helping fleets manage costs sustainably, and Bandag has a strong legacy of high-quality solutions. I look forward to accelerating growth and strengthening our position in this strategically important market.”
With pressures mounting from supply chain instability, rising operating costs and the influx of cheap and untested tyre imports, Bandag is positioning itself as the premium alternative for fleets seeking resilience and performance.
“If you believe in circularity and sustainability, reliable local supply chains and lower costs per kilometre, then Bandag is the solution,” Frost adds.
A Proven Formula for Success

Once a global leader in retreading, Bandag has quietly rebuilt its foundations, creating a powerful proposition for today’s commercial market. The model is built on three essential pillars:
- Premium Bridgestone casing supply and product quality
- Long-standing commercial fleet partnerships
- A network of experienced, locally based Bandag dealers
This three-way approach has already delivered success in some of the world’s most competitive markets. In the United States, Bandag tyre management programmes are used by more than 50% of the largest fleets, while the brand is also making its presence felt across Europe.
“When the Bandag model is properly implemented, the outcomes for dealer partners and fleets alike are difficult to match in the industry,” added Frost.
Circular by Design
At its core, Bandag is built on circularity. Retreading reduces waste, maximises the lifespan of each casing and significantly lowers environmental impact.
Bridgestone’s lifecycle data shows that retread tyres reuse the existing casing and require significantly less than one-third the raw materials of a new tyre, helping reduce both resource demand and CO₂ emissions compared with manufacturing new tyres. By extending casing life through retreading, raw material use and associated greenhouse gas emissions are reduced markedly across a tyre’s lifecycle – contributing to improved resource productivity and lower environmental footprint[1]
In practical fleet terms, this means less raw material extraction, significantly lower emissions and greater lifecycle efficiency compared with a new-tyre-only strategy.
“The beauty of our business model is that the more sustainable we help a fleet become, the less the fleet will spend,” Frost explains. “It may sound counterintuitive, but we want customers to buy as few new tyres as possible and to maximise the value of the casings they already own. That drives better sustainability outcomes and lower costs at the same time.”
Data-Driven Efficiency: The Power of BASys
What differentiates Bandag further is BASys, Bridgestone’s advanced digital system that tracks every casing through its lifecycle, from collection to retreading to refitment.
Each casing receives a unique barcode, giving full visibility of the retreading journey. BASys integrates with ERP systems, reduces administration, cuts paperwork and enables more informed, data-led decision-making.

For dealers, BASys delivers:
- Improved manufacturing efficiency
- Digital job cards and automated casing collection
- Reduced warranty and rework rates through quality insights
- Easier compliance with customer specifications
For fleets, the benefits include:
- Guaranteed casing traceability
- Instant access to performance metrics and retread KPIs
- The ability to create bespoke casing specifications
- Integration with other Bridgestone systems for a complete performance overview
With more than seven million tyres worldwide under management, BASys enables a high level of transparency and control. Dealers can optimise stock and casing flows, while fleets gain better planning capabilities and reduced downtime.
Production Excellence in Stargard
Bandag’s production takes place at Bridgestone’s state-of-the-art truck and bus radial facility in Stargard, Poland, bringing new tyre and retread expertise under one roof.
This allows Bandag to utilise the same extrusion and next-generation mixing technologies used in Bridgestone’s premium new tyres. The result is retreads engineered for longer wear life, improved rolling efficiency and performance levels comparable to new products.
“The Stargard facility allows us to apply the same advanced technologies and materials used in our new tyres to our retreads. The result is a product that performs better for longer while consuming fewer resources. Again, better environmental outcomes and better economic outcomes go hand in hand.”
Built for Fleets, Powered by Dealers

Bandag’s franchise model remains central to its strategy. Rather than centralised control, it empowers independent dealers with world-class technology, premium products and digital tools, while allowing them to maintain close customer relationships.
“No one serves fleets better than strong local dealers,” Frost says. “They understand their customers, their markets and their casings. Bridgestone and Bandag provide the products, software and quality control but the local dealer brings it to life.”
Working alongside Bridgestone Fleet Care, Bandag helps fleets design tyre programmes that reduce operating costs, extend casing life and deliver measurable performance gains. At the same time, Fleet Care provides dealers with insights and support to strengthen customer retention and unlock new revenue opportunities.
“The end result is simple,” Frost adds. “Fleets buy fewer tyres, spend less money and achieve better outcomes. That’s why loyalty to Bandag remains so strong.”
Ready for the Road Ahead
Retreading has long been a cornerstone of smart fleet management. In today’s environment of tightening sustainability targets, growing cost pressures and increasing demand for resilient local supply chains, Bandag’s proposition is clearer than ever.
“Retreading is the cornerstone of the most successful tyre dealers and fleet operations,” Frost concludes. “With our renewed focus, advanced products and proven route to market, we’re demonstrating that there is a smarter, more sustainable and more cost-effective way forward.”
