Smart Tyres

Tanzanian retreader Smart Tyres, located in the heart of the country’s transportation hub in Dar-es-Salaam, has operated a TBR retreading factory since 2014, servicing marquee clients in the logistics, transportation and construction industries.

The company’s success has been achieved through valued business garnered among notable clients such as MeTL (Tanzania’s largest home-grown company), Golden Coach, Simba Logistics, TRH, Famari Investment and Transfuel Logistics to name a few. Within their group of companies, Smart Tyres supplies retreads to its sister-companies in the logistics sector, which own 600 trucks.

In Sept 2019, Kartindo Rubber, the Medan, Indonesia-based tread rubber manufacturer, appointed Smart Tyres as a Kartindo Retread Partner (KRP) in Tanzania and was the first to receive the recognition award as the Prestigious Kartindo Retread Partner (KRP) in Africa. This, says Kartindo, was due to Smart Tyres’ state-of-the-art retreading machinery set up, well-executed autonomous and preventive maintenance programme, reliable quality control system and high customer satisfaction ratings.

As part of the KRP programme, the Kartindo Rubber team has conducted on-site market visits and collaborated with the Smart Tyres team to introduce specific tread designs and rubber formulations tailored to local driving habits, road, and weather conditions.

Currently, Smart Tyres holds a strong market share in Tanzania while keeping its claim ratio well below 1% for the past 6 years in operation. The company says it aspires to be the market leader in tyre retreading in Tanzania by offering a complete tyre management solution to clients in terms of product offerings and technical consultation.

“It’s a privilege for Smart Tyres to be part of the Kartindo Retread Partner (KRP) programme, which is accredited only to retreading facilities that meet international standards,” said Hasnain Rahim, the Managing Director of Smart Tyres. “We gained not only by their consistent superior product quality, but also their timely delivery, commercial and technical support. We are happy that ultimately our clients will reap the benefits from this partnership.

“Our clients are pleased with the notable difference in quality in terms of tyre retread finishing and mileage performance. The product quality speaks for itself,” he added.

“Based on our market study in Tanzania, Smart Tyres undoubtedly has the best retreading facility set-up that focuses on a quality retreading process combined with a dedicated management and operations team, said Jason Tedja, GM Sales and Marketing of Kartindo Rubber. “We see the alignment between both companies directions to initiate this partnership for a sustainable business growth. Together, we will set the quality benchmark of tyre retreading in Tanzania.”
