Dunlop Aircraft Tyres Appoints CEO
Birmingham-based Dunlop Aircraft Tyres has appointed Mike Askew as chief executive officer. He joins the company from APPH Group, who design and manufactures hydraulic systems and landing gears for commercial and military aircraft.
Mike had been managing director at APPH for almost three years and before that he held senior positions at Doncasters and GKN Westland Helicopters.
At the same time Dunlop Aircraft Tyres’ chairman and managing director, Ian Edmondson, is appointed deputy chairman of the group's holding company, Castle Equity Limited.
Since Ian joined Dunlop Aircraft
Tyres in 2007, the company’s annual turnover has doubled to over £40 million and the firm has successfully expanded its production capability both in the UK and overseas, including the opening of a distribution and retreading facility in China.
“Ian’s strategy of geographic expansion and product development has been tremendously successful,” said Mike. “I look forward to using my experience and working to build on these achievements at this exciting time for the company.” Ian Edmondson added: “Apart from the company’s business success, from a personal perspective being at the helm
during our very special centenary year in 2010 and winning the Queen’s Award for Enterprise last year stand out as two highlights during my term of office.
“The company, through the efforts of all its employees, is achieving so much and I look forward to its continuing success under Mike's leadership.”

BOTO Partners with Bandvulc to Wholesale Tyre Range
Indian tyre manufacturer and retreader Apollo Tyres has announced that it has been conferred with an Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Award (AREA) 2012 South Asia. Apollo received this award in the Health Promotion category for its HIV AIDS initiative. Sunam Sarkar, Chief Financial Officer, Apollo Tyres Ltd received the award from the Enterprise Asia Team.
Apollo Tyres has been working towards awareness and prevention of HIV AIDS amongst employees, business partners and communities since 2001. Today, apart from having an HIV AIDS Policy at the workplace, Apollo runs as many as 21 health care centres across India in the major transport hubs for the trucking community. In addition, the
company also conducts sensitisation sessions for its business partners with the help of in house Master Trainers.
Commenting on this, Onkar S Kanwar, Chairman, Apollo Tyres Ltd said, “Caring for society has always been a core value at Apollo Tyres and an award of such merit and standing only strengthens our resolve to ensure that our social responsibility initiatives continue to be treated as key business goals, backed by a

Late last year Goodyear Dunlop introduced PrecurePro, a further development of its commercial vehicle tyre retreading programme. The tyre maker describes PrecurePro as a “comprehensive range of pre- cure retreading solutions that reduce vehicle operating costs and support retreading partners and fleets.” The ultimate goal of PrecurePro, it adds,
is to give partners the required edge in a competitive market. Elaborating on the programme, Goodyear Dunlop says PrecurePro offers retreading partners a complete professional
support package, which covers marketing tools, technical advice and assistance as well as hardware recommendations and training opportunities. This support is complemented by a full range of pre- cure treads and retreading accessories that have been developed by the same teams that design Goodyear
