SDS Systemtechnik Inaugurates New Production Hall
SDS Systemtechnik, the German shearography and tyre testing specialists, has celebrated the opening of a third production hall at the company’s headquarters in Calw, just south of Stuttgart, by staging an open house event that was attended by a number of local dignitaries including the Mayor of Calw, the Chairman of the District Council and the company’s bank manager.
The company, which was founded by Stefan Dengler in 1998, has grown to be a leading global supplier of tyre testing equipment such as the company’s ITT range of shearography equipment, PTS
shining example of ‘made in Germany’ and a true ambassador for our town.” This was echoed by Mayor Ralf Eggert, who emphasised Dengler’s local roots and spoke of “Swabian innovative spirit.”
SDS has been located in Calw- Stammheim since 2000 and has developed as a company with strong local roots with a dedicated and loyal workforce. The new production hall, construction of which began in April this year, is the latest in a number of expansions over the years and follows on from a significant investment made in 2004 to expand the company’s
ITT-OTR 4500 shearography machine, which has now been sold five times globally, including one to Indian OTR and agricultural tyre specialists BKT. During the event Stefan Dengler spoke about market conditions and challenges in the global capital equipment market and highlighted the company’s aims for the future.
Europe, he said, is reducing its ability to invest with fleets under pressure, whilst the North American market, despite exhibiting a higher willingness to invest, was hampered by exchange rates. Latin America, he continued, was hampered by a low willingness to invest and the strong Euro as well as the need
price competition in the retread industry.
According to Dengler, the aim of SDS Systemtechnik is now to develop products by improving the speed of operation of the equipment and increasing automisation in analysis. The company, he added, was also aiming to increase flexibility by producing products for specific markets such as lower cost systems for developing markets and shearography solutions for specific markets such as car and motorsport. A further aim, he concluded, was the development of a systematic aftersales service to cover the whole of the lifetime of the company’s product.

pressure testing systems and D- mark laser marking systems. According to Dengler, who himself hails from Calw, SDS now has a total of 400 systems installed in 6 continents, a fact, which led District Council Chairman Helmut Riegger to describe the company as “a
