Chile-born Ana Maritza Rojas Cortés is a Biochemical Civil Engineer from the Catholic University of Valparaíso with more than twenty years of experience in Environment and Waste Management in the public sector. She also has a Diploma in Circular Economy at the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical                 methodology, with a focus on the methodology for the development of business models in the Circular                 Sustainability and Climate Change and is an environmental expert registered in most of the Courts of Appeals in the country.
     Currently, she works as a Partner of the Chilean environmen- tal consulting firm Idearia, which develops consultancies, both internationally and nationally within the Circular Eco- nomy, and which is currently engaged in work for the Peru- vian Ministry of Environment, MINAM, for the preparation of a proposal of a Regulation governing the management of end-of-use tyres in that country. Her namesake, our South American correspondent Daniel Rojas Enos, was recently able to interview her about her current project.
The work on the development of the Peruvian EPR model has been carried out through collaborative work guided by
Ms Rojas alongside stakeholders associated with authorities and public services; tyre manufacturing companies and im- porters; tyre recycling companies both informal and formal; and companies engaged in the tyre retreading sector. All this work has generated a prior diagnosis of the sector and a pro- posed regulation for the implementation of Extended Produ- cer Responsibility in the tyre sector in Peru.
In carrying out this research, it was ascertained that in Peru there has been a development of both formal companies de- dicated to retreading and repair and informal companies, the latter being of long standing and existing through several ge-
