Following an antidumping investigation on the imports of new tyres with a diameter of 13 to 22 inches from the People’s Republic of China, Mexico has announced a range of antidumping duties to be levied against tyres originating from the country.

Duties to Range from 5.18% to 32.24%

The investigation, which began on April 5th 2023, was requested by the Mexican subsidiaries of Bridgestone, Continental and Michelin as well as Compañía Hulera Tornel, and relate to the potentially unfair trading practices of the importers of passenger and light truck tyres originating from the People’s Republic of China.

In its ruling, the Finance Ministry of Mexico explained pricing levels of the imported tyres had forced the companies who had requested the investigation to mirror their pricing behaviour, thus impacting their market share and profitability, before concluding that the imports would continue to increase and damage the local market.

The ruling has stipulated that the import duties effective from October 1st will range from 5.18% to 32.24%, and will be applied accordingly:
