During the pre-civil war era, the company sent vehicles to collect and deliver tyres. “We are planning to restart the service to increase volumes. Modernisation of the plant is also due and the purpose of visiting Tyrexpo India is to search for suitable plant and machinery,” Shan said.

1963 and catered to the whole Northern Province, but it was closed in 1990 after the outbreak of civil war. “The plant was again revived in 2008- 09. We struggled for the first few years with my sister running the show and myself living in the UK. But now production is coming back on track with the business activities picking up in the region,” said Shan.
Northern Industries sources 'Kooltread' rubber from Treadsdirect and operates with two 4 and 8 tyre autoclaves. “We have sourced the autoclaves from India but the bigger eight tyre chamber was damaged in the shipping. We are also in touch with the Indian company that supplied the autoclave, based in Coimbatore, which would soon send its technical people to rectify the fault and install the chamber. Once the eight tyre chamber starts operation, the production is likely to be increased,” believes Shan.

“We bought the Mumbai based plant around three months back. Now we are planning to expand the acquired plant but space is a constraint at the existing site,” said Moni Enose of Mahalakshmi Tyre Remolding.
The plant cannot be expanded at the present location, therefore, the unit is likely to be shifted to the new site in the next six months. “Considering the size of the Mumbai market, we are targeting 3,000 tyres per month production and around 100 tyres each day,” claimed Moni at the Tyrexpo India show in Chennai.
With increasing competition, the firm believes that it may take some time to reach the targeted figure. “We are not setting any time frame to achieve the 3,000 unit mark but we hope to reach the magical number in the next few years as Mumbai is a good market. Presently, the market is slow and is taking some time to pick-up,”
he said.
The company, which sources tread rubber from Teesons and JK Tyres, plans to get into the retreading of tractor tyres at its mother plant in Kolhapur. “We are looking for the
